November 4th, 1979. Islamist militants storm the American Embassy in Tehran and take more than 50 hostages. But before they can lock down the building, six embassy staffers secretly flee the building, taking refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. The American government immediately begins devising plans to “exfiltrate” these escapees, eventually settling on a cover story that casts them as Canadian filmmakers scouting exotic locations for a sci-fi movie.
A top secret CIA-run covert action that involves building a phony Hollywood film studio and marketing a movie that doesn’t exist? Truth really is stranger than fiction. And now Ben Affleck has brought this dramatic story to the silver screen in his latest directorial release, Argo, a highly charged thriller that has been met with glowing reviews from critics and viewers alike.
