Günter Grass
Nobel Literature Prize winner Grass has been a big player on the literary scene since his magical realism masterpiece, The Tin Drum, was published in 1959 (the photo above is Grass’ illustration of Oskar, the lead character). His books explore post-war German guilt, a topic made all the more poignant by the author’s admission that he was a member of the Waffen SS during World War II.
